How To Wear: Belt & Buckle

A belt and buckle would not normally be one's first thought when they are thinking about what items they should purchase as part of their kilt outfit. In some instances the belt and buckle are vital pieces of highland wear and should not be forgotten about. However, there are a few rules that you should bear in mind before you step out in your shiny new Kilt Belt and Buckle.

The first and most important rule is that the Kilt belt should only be worn with an Argyll Jacket. It should be worn in the absence of a waistcoat in order to fill the gap between the shirt and the kilt and the belt should never been worn with a waistcoat. So, therefore, a Kilt belt would never be worn alongside a Prince Charlie Jacket and Waistcoat.

A Kilt belt should ideally not be needed for the reasons a kilt would ordinarily be worn (e.g. to hold up a pair of jeans), if a kilt has been measured correctly it should perfectly around the waist. Although it does come in handy if you are going to be Ceilidh dancing while wearing your kilt! Regardless, a kilt belt is not worn for practical reasons, it is worn because it is a traditional part of the kilt outfit. This is why they are so popular!

The final thing to remember is that the belt should not go through the belt loops at the back, as strange as that sounds, the belt loops at the back are actually to be used for the sporran. The belt buckle should also be centred with the sporran at the front of the kilt.
